Somatic Therapy in Central Oregon

Somatic therapy in Central Oregon

Your body has been keeping the score. It can also keep the healing.

Talk alone does not reach everything. Somatic therapy at Aspen Counseling works with the nervous system directly, tracking sensation, breath, and impulse, so that the body's protective patterns can complete and settle. The office is in Sisters, serving clients from Bend, Redmond, and across Central Oregon.

This is not bodywork and there is nothing to perform. Much of it looks like ordinary conversation, with regular pauses to notice what the body is saying underneath the words. It is informed by polyvagal theory and nearly three decades of clinical work with trauma, and it pairs naturally with Internal Family Systems, which the practice also offers.

About Somatic Therapy at Aspen Counseling

Talk alone doesn't reach everything. Somatic therapy works with the nervous system directly — tracking sensation, breath, and impulse — so that the body's protective patterns can complete and settle. It's especially powerful for trauma, chronic anxiety, and the feeling of being stuck on high alert (or shut down entirely).

Common questions

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions are in person at 704 W Hood Ave, Suite C in Sisters, Oregon, a short walk from downtown and about a half-hour drive from Bend and Redmond.

Does somatic therapy involve touch?

No. The work is attention-based and happens in ordinary, fully clothed conversation. What changes is how closely we pay attention to what the body is doing while we talk.

How do I get started?

Send a message through the contact page or call the office. Every new client relationship starts with a free phone consultation with our intake coordinator, a low-pressure conversation about what's bringing you in, your insurance, and which of our therapists is the right fit.
